Media’s Zoning Hearing Board opened the case on Media Real Estate’s request for relief on three issues. Chairman Todd Gibian went slightly past a 9 p.m. end time, and closed with a continuation of the matter for a Jan. 8, 2015 resumption.
The application is formally made by property owner, Commonwealth Real Estate Investors (a MRE arm), for the development of a Wawa convenience store and fueling station. Three issues were under consideration.
Commonwealth is requesting a special exception for use of a sliver of the overall property along State Street from the western property line to Providence Road. The segment is zoned residential, but has been used for parking during the Media Inn operation.
The rezoning from commercial to R-3, taking place some decades ago, remains something of an anomaly according to the applicant’s professionals, architect Robert Linn and attorney Tim Sullivan. Linn said his research did not reveal any residential use of this portion for some 60 years. Review of 1979 plans for the Media Inn indicated it was included for parking only.
